I had forgotten about the craziness Murtala Mohammed International Airport had to offer until I stepped into the lobby! 'Chai! Nigeria, we hail thee,' I thought as I dragged my luggage through the swarm of people to the airline's counter.
I had checked in online so I didn't have to join the long snake-like queue to the counter, ... although it still took me a good thirty minutes to finally get to immigration. When I finally got to the departure gate, I was tired. All the seats were taken...' there is never enough seats' I said rolling my eyes. 'That's Nigeria for you' a voice replied behind me. I turned around to see a dark, tall, good-looking young man beside me...I smiled.
The next hour before we boarded, we talked about Nigeria and its issues, and how we appreciate the growth in other countries but never implement it in our country. He was a very interesting companion. We talked like we had known ourselves for a long time, and we completely forgot we were standing all through.
After a while, a skinny lady in an airline uniform stepped out and called for boarding. The young man stretched his hand to me smiling and said 'Sorry, we never got to introduce ourselves, my name is Vince'. I took his hand, smiled, and said 'My name is Nima'. He shook my hand and said 'Pleased to meet you Nima, See you on the other side'. With that he walked confidently to the business class section and gave his passport to the airport attendant. All I could think of was ...wow, this guy is fine!...l began to imagine him naked...that would be a sight to behold!
This holiday is turning out to be exciting already. I can't wait for it. I need all the rest...and the fine distractions please, it's been a long year!
